Wearing seat belts saves lives

Car Safety by Wearing Seat Belts

By wearing seat belts and buckling children into age and size appropriate car seats and booster seats, people can reduce the risk of serious injury and death. There are still millions who don’t follow the safety laws. A driver can be pulled over and sited just for not wearing a seat belt – the officer does not need another reason.

To increase seat belt use.

  1. Laws have allowed officers to stop and ticket someone for not buckling up. Some states only allow officers to give tickets when they have pulled the driver over for something else.
  2. Increased penalties can be given resulting in higher fines or points on a driver’s license.
  3. High-visibility enforcement – Combining law enforcement and media coverage is effective for reaching people who don’t use seat belts regularly such as men, teens, and young adults.
  4. Programs are conducted at night to target people when seat belt use is the lowest and crashes are the highest.
  5. Child restraint laws require children riding in a car to use approved devices appropriate for their age.
  6. Effective programs can help advertise car seat and seat belt use.
  7. Distribution of car seats through giveaways or low cost rentals.
  8. Incentive programs with coupons or prizes reward parents for correctly using car seats.

windshield tinting

Why Windshield Tinting?

There are many benefits of tinting auto glass.

A pointless luxury? Some even believe that windshield tinting is a waste of money. However, tinting auto glass is very useful not only to drivers but also their cars.

Only for Appearance? Sure, it can be nice to have, but it does so much more. For instance,  It also provides you a little bit of privacy so that thieves do not get tempted to break inside and steal something. It protects your dashboard and upholstery, particularly leather seats. Windshield tinting protects your upholstery from warping, fading, or cracking.

How long does it last? We have all seen tinted windshield that is bubbling. If this is the case, tinted glass will not be effective and will not last. However, when you tint your windshield at a professional auto glass shop, it is effective. Not only will it prevent UV rays from entering your car, but it will also last for at least 20 years.

Does Tinting Auto Glass Make the Glass Strong? Even though tinted auto glass does not make the glass stronger, it does decrease the chance of the glass shattering if it has a crack.

Doesn’t Tinting Auto Glass Make It Too Dark? Auto glass tint comes in a variety of shades to choose from. So, if you do not want the glass to be too dark, choose a lighter tint. This will still prevent UV rays from entering your car. Keep in mind that the shade of the tint must follow your state’s regulations, meaning that it cannot exceed a specific shade.

Windshield tinting might seem like it is only for appearance, but it does more than meets the eye. The fact is, tinted auto glass has many benefits.

Dealing with Hail Damage

When conditions are right, hail stones can form.

With a thunderstorm comes high wind and rain but if the conditions are right, hail can happen. Hail damage can happen quickly with anything it comes in contact with. All vehicles can receive dents and broken glass.

If you can avoid hail damage, do it! but if it happens when you are on your way to home or office, this can be difficult. Staying alert to weather stations can help keep you off the road. If you are caught in a hailstorm, try to seek refuge under an overpass, if possible. When at home, if you don’t have a garage, there are specially designed car covers with padding that can resist hail damage. All in all, it’s better for you to stay safe and deal with auto repairs after the storm.

Drivers often postpone repairing the chips or cracks caused by hail. It seems convenient but the driver and passengers in the car can be in danger. A while back, windshields and other auto glass were only meant to protect the people from weather and give a clear view while driving. Auto body was made of heavy steel. Now lighter materials are used but may compromise the structural integrity. Bottom line: Cracked glass on a vehicle that continues to be driven will more likely break increasing the injury risk. At the very least, your vision through the windshield may be compromised.

How to repair chips or cracks? There are do-it-yourself kits that you can purchase for a low price but doing the repair takes time and patience.

At 7 Stars Auto Glass, we have certified technicians to repair your chips or replace your windshield with a life-time guarantee and it only takes less than an hour.

Safety Tips for Travel

As summer comes to an end for school children, many families will use these last few weeks for a family vacation. While this is a great time for family bonding, there are a few safety concerns you should adhere to.

  1. Windshield Cracks – If you have a crack in your windshield, have it repaired before you leave, even if it’s a small one. It can become larger as you travel even by going over the smallest bump in the road and cause potential harm to you and others.
  2. Check your tires and windshield wipers – Be sure the tires have good treads. Bald tires can be a road hazard for you and those cars traveling around you. Cracked windshield wipers will not do the job they are meant to do by removing rain so you have a clear view. It’s not the time that you realize your wipers should have been replaced when a thunderstorm comes up unexpectedly.
  3. Be sure to fill up with gas – This is especially true when going on a road trip to an area unfamiliar to you. There may not be a gas station when you need it. You do not want to spend the first hours of vacation on the side of the road waiting for Roadside Assistance.
  4. Don’t drink and drive – This goes without saying but drunk drivers account for about 1/3 of all traffic-related deaths.
  5. Stop texting – This is a danger to avoid. Even when you are at a stop light, don’t start texting or scrolling. It only takes a moment of inattention to cause accidents or create road rage.
  6. Give yourself enough time – Don’t be in a rush to get to your destination. Be sure to take breaks along the way and stay overnight when you get tired. Dozing off at the wheel can be deadly.
  7. Get help from your navigator – It’s a great time to discover new places. Choose another family member to guide you through turns so you can concentrate on the road. GPS has taken care of the guesswork. Even then, it’s better to have someone else in charge of the route. If you miss your turn, don’t panic. There’s always a safe solution at the next light or exit.
  8. Buckle up your seatbelt – No matter your age, wearing a seatbelt can be a life-saving step. Besides it is against the law. Law Enforcements Officials can stop you and ticket you for not wearing your seatbelt. They don’t have to have another reason.

Remember that you can be the best driver in the world but you never know what the next driver is going to do. Have fun on your vacation! Be safe!
